I've had 6 lives once and lost them on 2 levels alone collecting 2 capsuls per zone. You do get a higher score collecting the capsuls, but you also get a harder game. Collecting 2 or more in one zone warps you to a harder rank, or it seems like it. There are capsuls in the game which affect the direction of your game.

Its one of those games you must have a go of but due to its linearity and simplistic design you will probably bore of it after 2 plays. Its a 9/10 game for those that like a quick blast, repetitive play after 2 or 3 credits is just boring though. The challenge stages just get silly but are highly enjoyable and the tunes change from each one. It gets very hard in the last two zones, you can only shoot certain aliens at certain times and there is alot of Kamikaze aliens that dive at you at top speed. The music is very cool, the PCB has treble and bass You have Galaga, Galaxian and scrolling levels. You can triple up your fire power by getting caught and shooting the collecting alien down There is only one boss battle that I know of and its a lame affair. I recently bought the PCB and have had it in my cab for about 6 weeks or so. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a port of Galaga'88 for the X68000, but that machine has so few exclusives that it's really not worth owning, IMO. Here's the website of Messiah Entertainment (at least they don't have a god complex), where you can pre-order, and get more info about, the NEX: So was Galaga 90 for PCE the only console port? I don't know where I got the idea that Galaga 88 was an NES title.

Thanks for the info- the NEX sounds great! I will definitely look into that. It will retail for about $59.99, and feature wire-less controllers, and a port for NES controllers, lightguns, etc. But as far as your unreliable NES goes, next month the NEX-a top loading console with two cartridge ports on top-one for NES games and one for Famicom games-will go on sale. I'll have to think about getting it for PCE.ĪFIK, Galaga '88 was never released on the NES or Famicom. I just don't like playing games on my unreliable NES. I have to play this game- I've heard nothing but good things about it and of course I love Galaga.
